In 2019 and 2020, Black Summer Bushfires raged across the east coast of Australia causing devestation to the lives of people and wildlife.

Like most people, we wanted to do something to help that made a real difference and, after researching the area most in need, we discovered that koalas and other wildlife in Victoria were badly injured and funds for rehab and rescue operations were not there.

Teaming with Rotary and Wildlife Victoria, The Benny Mayhem Band decided to create the “Save The Koalas Program” in an effort to provide the funding needed to save as many koalas and other Australian wildlife as possible.

After the COVID lockdowns were over, the band set out almost immediately on tour and began raising the money.

Crowds in WA have been incredible, with donations from Hedland, to Exmouth to Esperance and everywhere in between going directly to Waterholes Wildlife Sanctuary in the Gippsland who do incredible work on a very limited budget.

Thanks to everyone involved, the shelter has built an enclosure for 30 Koalas and a facility for macropod rehabilitation for Kangaroos and Wallabies as well. The shelter is not open to tourists so they are all about making the animals well again and releasing them back into the wild. It’s a great cause and the donations have made a real difference to animals in need where it matters most.

They are located in the most rugged place you will ever see, right in the heart of the wildlife most in need of help and their goal is to keep expanding their capacity to help more animals.
